Leger is a text editor for large files integrated with the English <-> German dictionary. It has the hypertext like features and can utilize the Apple PlainTalkΓäó extension.
1. Editor
ΓÇó You can open several files of unlimited size regardless of the amount of RAM you have installed (it uses about 32K to open the arbitrary file).
ΓÇó You can display the same file in several windows (up to 10 windows) at the same time to make changes in different parts of a big file at once, so there is no need for scrolling from the beginning to the end and back.
ΓÇó You can perform the replace all operation on files regardless of their sizes (program uses only 32K for this operation).
ΓÇó You can open badly formatted files (files without carriage returns) in the auto wrap mode (like in Teach Text) regardless of their sizes.
ΓÇó You can copy and paste the text fragments that are bigger that the amount of RAM memory on your machine (provided you have enough room on your hard disk).
ΓÇó You can set the font and font size independently in each opened window.
2. English <-> German dictionary
ΓÇó You can use the Browse window to quickly browse through the enclosed PD English <-> German dictionary.
ΓÇó You can use the hypertext feature to click the word in the arbitrary text file to see the explanation of that word (for both English or German texts).
ΓÇó You can listen to the voice that speaks your file (using Apple PlainTalkΓäó extension); you can let it start reading at any insertion point inside the file (only for the English files).
ΓÇó You can set the auto-speech mode - it speaks every word or sentence you have clicked or selected in the hypertext mode.
ΓÇó You can easily copy the dictionary explanations to the separate file or print them.
ΓÇó The enclosed PD dictionary has about 3 MB expanded (about 30 000 entries) - fully indexed for fast access.
3. Teaching tool
ΓÇó You can listen to the English text - Gutenberg project books for example.
ΓÇó You can click the unknown word for the immediate German or English explanation.
ΓÇó You can easily copy the explanations to the separate file or print them.
ΓÇó You can easily make the sorted list of words of the selected fragment of text.
ΓÇó You can automatically exclude from the list words that you have learned already to have only the unknown words and look at the explanation of them.
ΓÇó You can use the Idioms window to easily search the enclosed PD English, German idioms dictionary.
